The Magnum Pop-Up Store, where you get to design your own Magnum ice-cream, is back this year, and if the crazy queues at their last store in Rosebank were anything to go by, it’s definitely a popular attraction. This time it has opened at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. (details about location, times and price are at the bottom of this post)
The concept is simple, they take a naked Magnum, you get to pick a chocolate for them to dip it in – dark, milk or white.
You pick 3 toppings from the array on offer (think oreos, caramelised cashews and chocolate coated popping candy) which get shaken together and then poured on top of the freshly dipped Magnum.
You then pick another chocolate to drizzle on top, et voilà, a freshly, custom made Magnum for you to post pictures of on Instagram.
The back of the store has a gallery wall, where you can get someone to take a photo of you with your ice cream. Otherwise, you can use the background to take a “everybody’s doing it” ice cream shot.
Now sit down before I tell you the price. Trust me on this. A personalised Magnum ice-cream will cost you R44.95.
The store opens on 12 March 2016. To find it, walk in the entrance behind the Nelson Mandela Statue and turn right.
The store’s hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 9am – 8pm
Friday – Saturday: 9am – 10pm
Sunday: 9am – 6pm
Store telephone number: 081 821 8281
If you do create your own Magnum, share it on social media with #MakeMyMagnumSA. I would love to see what you made, so tag me if you feel so inclined (@jesska_f)
Disclaimer: I attend the media launch of the pop up store. This means I got free ice cream. Yay.
The pictures in this post were taken by me. Please don’t use them without my permission, and without credit. If you do, you will suffer from severe brain freeze every time you eat an ice cream.
