I have a bit of a soft spot for weekend breakfasts, which probably stems from my childhood. Every Saturday or Sunday growing up, my mom would make something delicious for breakfast, from crumpets to scones, freshly baked muffins and even a good ol’ fry up, it was always something to look forward to.
Now that I no longer live at home, and hate doing dishes, finding places to enjoy a good breakfast on the weekend is at the top of my priority list. I’m happy to say, my latest discovery, Bidon Bistro in Muldersdrift, ticks all the right boxes.
Located right next door to Kloofzicht, (Travel down Beyers Naude until you feel like you are in a different province, then turn left onto the R374) this newly opened, rustic little restaurant is hidden among the trees. It’s very well signposted and they boast a big parking area for cyclists, complete with a bike-wash service.
Don’t let the appearance from the parking lot fool you, their food is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. They had plenty of waiters on hand and the service was quick and very friendly. Apparently they get crazy busy after the cyclists have completed their morning ride, so it’s probably best to get there before 9 if you don’t want to wait longer than normal for your food.
They serve both breakfast and lunch and have a proper pizza oven on site. (Hello crispy, smoky pizza bases) We asked if we could bring batdog and pickle-pants on our next visit and they were fine with it (Yay for outdoor, dog friendly restaurants).
I ordered the Bidon Eggs Benedict, a potato rosti topped with a poached egg, brie cheese, gypsy ham and hollandaise. The potato rosti was crispy on the outside and delectably soft on the inside, the egg was poached perfectly and the combo of brie and hollandaise was great. The boyfriend ordered a traditional breakfast that came with a delicious homemade sausage and crispy bacon. We both cleaned our plates and vowed to return for lunch sometime soon.
You can visit Bidon Bistro on Facebook for their address and phone number: https://www.facebook.com/bidonbistro/?fref=ts
I’m not too sure about their operating hours, but we got there at 8am on a Sunday and they were already open. If you do happen to visit, leave a comment below to let me know what you thought.
