I was invited to the launch of Grain – food & wood in Maboneng, Johannesburg. A lonely restaurant on the edge of an urban park that has combined gluten free food options from Gihon Foods with a showroom of products from the Woodlady.
- the toasted cheese sarmie: oozy melted cheese topped with basil pesto and sandwiched between two slices are beautifully pink beetroot bread, (vegetarian and gluten free)
- the BLT: a delicious bacon, lettuce and tomato combo served on zucchini bread with a cranberry sauce (banting friendly and damn amazing)
- and my favourite of the evening: the miss piggy pizza – a spectacular mozzarella, bacon, cranberry and basil combination.
If you are in Maboneng and looking for a new spot to get some chow, head to Grain at Common Ground Park on the corner of Van Beek and Beacon Road. They have a kiddies menu and a small playground outside, so its suitable for the whole family. The prices are also pretty reasonable.
The Grainy Pictures are to go with the name of the restaurant. Just kidding, iPhones are not a fan of low light. #sorrynotsorry
