Food. Lots of food. Lots of Mozambican deliciousness. That is what awaits you if you decide to indulge in the Mozambican buffet currently on offer at Southern Sun at O.R Tambo International Airport. For only R290 pp, you can gorge yourself silly on a wide array of dishes, including fresh prawns and crayfish, grilled by the dozen, slices of roast beef with a trinchado sauce, chicken in the most delectable coconut sauce and for those of you not freaked out by seeing what your food looks like whole, suckling pig.
From starters which include a salad of green beans, fresh baby tomatoes and sliced chorizo to many desserts including Portuguese custard tarts, you will leave feeling incredibly full and satisfied. And if celebrities are your thing, you can even meet Chef Benny of Masterchef fame.
Mozambican food is heavily influenced by Portuguese flavours, since it was a Portuguese colony back in the day, when Europe was conquering the world one African country at a time. Expect a lot of garlic, chilli, tomato, parsley and awesome in the dishes. Expect happiness, and if you decide to go, go hungry.
The hotel may be a bit difficult to find, but friendly airport staff will direct you if you get lost. You can book for the 8th or 9th of May 2013. More details are shown below, you can book with Danielle Legrand by calling +27 (0)11 977-3600 or emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I was invited by Southern Sun to enjoy this buffet as their guest. All views are my own.
